Welcome to Katima Mulilo Campus

Introduction

Katima Mulilo is one of twelve campuses of University of Namibia. It was founded in the late 1960s as Katima Mulilo Teacher training Centre (KTTC).

It was initially housed at St Kizito College before it started to operate on the premises of the, then Caprivi State School (now Caprivi Senior Secondary School) in the 1970s. In 1990, the college moved to Tobias Hainyeko Centre, where it operated until 1996, when it was relocated to the present-day campus.

Through a Cabinet Directive, aimed at strengthening the quality of teacher training, and increasing the supply of teachers in the country, colleges of education in the country merged with the Faculty of Education of the University of Namibia. This marked the birth of the Katima Mulilo Campus (KMC) of the University of Namibia in 2011. The campus has since heralded a continuing transformation and re-engineering of facilities, diversification of course offerings, student and staff recruitment.

Facilities & Stats

Current student enrolment includes 2160 studying full time, 130 studying through distance mode, and 109 doing English Access as a bridging course. Spacious and conditioned lecture halls, rooms, and labs are available for teaching, reading, studying, and doing practicals in all programme offerings at the campus. With the construction of more state-of-the-art facilities (i.e. lecture theatres, library, staff offices, and recreational) underway, the campus is going through unprecedented expansion. Wi-Fi internet connectivity is accessible in most buildings and open spaces. Other facilities include a multipurpose hall, stocked library, ever-green open lawns, and 280 hostel rooms.

The location of KMC is a stone’s throw from the might Zambezi River. The strategic position enables the river to provide a fresh breeze day and night, offers boat cruises, and pushes bodies of water to the campus during flood times – giving the campus a unique panorama.
